anatomy of a guitar

The acoustic guitar comprises a soundbox (face, ribs and back) onto which the neck is jointed and the strings are connected between the head top nut and the bridge. The sound escapes through the soundhole. The crucial part of the guitar is the face and the choice and quality of wood (eg close grained spruce) and the method of bracing (eg Torres or Martin). Traditionally certain timbers have been used such as ebony or rosweood for the fingerboard and bridge, rip rosewood or Btazilian mahogany for the ribs and back. Modern guitars include papier mache or GRP )Glass Re-inforced Polyster) for the back and ribs.
